In 2011 Shanna White began traveling to Mysore, India to study with her
Teachers Sharath and Saraswati Jois. Shanna was Authorized in August 2016 by R Sharath Jois at the Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute, in Mysore, India.
Shanna with an athletic background discovered yoga at the gym when she was 20, the gym offered all Ashtanga Yoga classes. She became hooked on those classes and after a couple of weeks, with recommendation of her teacher, began her own daily early morning yoga practice after reading the first few pages (only haha) of the Yoga Mala. Shanna at the time was working in Radio Broadcasting for Clear Channel Communications but it didn't take long before her whole life shifted from the Media to Mysore.
Shanna taught a Mysore program in Orlando, Florida at The Yoga Shala for 3 years, before shifting her focus to children. Shanna practiced with her first teacher, Krista Shirley at the wee hours of the morning (430-630) before assisting her (630-830) and then teaching her own Mid-Morning Yoga Program. (830-11) The daily rigor of those years, shaped who she'd become.
Shanna is entering her 6th year, teaching children ages 5-14 the method of mindfulness, breathing and yoga at Burns Science and Technology Charter School in Oak Hill, Florida. Shanna has developed and expanded the Yoga Health and Wellness Curriculum over the past 4 years.
The program began from a Sonima Foundation grant and was kept by administration because of data representing steady academic growth, increased community involvement and decreased behavior referrals.
Shanna remains committed to her community and School but enjoys the opportunity to travel, teach and practice around the world during school breaks. She plans to publish her book, "Primary Princess" when she feels ready. A true tale of her journey through her twenties with the Ashtanga Yoga Method, introducing yoga to a public school and her everyday acts of trust, love and adventure.
Shanna is firm in planting her roots in Oak Hill, Florida. She believes in the foundation of family, service and community.
Entering her 5th year of teaching, Shanna began her own Non-Profit (VCAY) to support the family and community she adores. (right out of her classroom) On September 15th, 2017, Volusia County Ashtanga Yoga was born! (Thank You, IRMA!)
Shanna takes her practice from 430-630am every day ,and begins teaching at 630. Her students are mostly Burns Sci-Tech Staff and parents of students.
Shanna dedicates her teachings to her teachers, Shri K Pattabhi Jois, Sharath and Saraswati Jois.
Always in memory of and for, Guruji, Sri K Pattabhi Jois.
